UPLAND, California -- As predicted, there has emerged a whole
new crop of drivers up front on the leader board of this season’s ASA
Speed Truck Challenge (ASA STC). With the first race of the year
showing plenty of driving excitement, the weekend was dominated by some
newer drivers. Jason Black, in only his second year with the ASA STC,
driving the #9 Golden Lane Ventures / Black Motorsports Chevy S-10,
took his first main event win at Havasu 95 Speedway in dramatic fashion
after setting a new track qualifying record of 15.680. Following close
behind was the #08 Kohn Colodny CPA’s / La Horgue Metal Fabrication
Dodge Dakota driven by Dallas Colodny, also in his second year and the
evenings Trophy Dash winner just edging out Black. Rounding out the top
five in the 100 lap main event was Rookie #11 Paul Bonaccorsi, #38 Todd
McLauchlan, and two-time ASA STC champion, #18 Darren Young. Billy
Wease in the #3 Speed Truck captured his first Hard Charger award
moving from 12th to 6th position.
Tucson Raceway Park will hold just as much excitement with another
eight rookies and several hard-charging drivers from the 2007 season.
“This is certainly going to be a wild 2008 championship,” said ASA STC
president Jay Rutherford. “Just like last year, it is going to be wide
open to the driver that shows up every race, drives smart and stays out
of trouble. It was just this kind of trouble that took out a veteran
Speed Truck driver on lap 3 of a 100 lap race at Havasu 95 Speedway.”
“We are particularly excited to get to Tucson Raceway Park as we begin
taping our schedule of eight original races for broadcast once again on
national television.” “Both our sponsors and drivers are pumped up
about staying close to the action and getting excellent exposure,”
added Bill McCloud, ASA STC National Marketing Director. “The ASA Speed
Truck Challenge has had some good seasons; however 2008 will prove to
be one of our best yet with tremendous results for our marketing
partners.”
