HIRATA MOTORSPORTS QUALIFIES IN TOP HALF OF FIELD
Dave Hirata Qualifies No. 4
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 15, 2008) – Hirata Motorsports has said from the beginning their entry in the NHRA AC Delco GatorNationals is first and foremost a test and tune session. Dave Hirata and his Torco Racing Fuels A-Fuel Dragster lost the first day of qualifying to rain, but were able to have two positive qualifying runs on Saturday.
“We are just testing again,” said Hirata. “This is just a big test session. We tried something [in the last qualifying run] and should have went the other way. Hopefully we can go the other way a little bit more and improve from our first qualifying [run].”
Hirata qualified No. 4 with a quick 5.36, 262.33 MPH during his first run of the day, and not improving on that time later.
“It always helps to be in the top half, but I just look at it as we are just racing another guy and bottom half or top half, it doesn’t matter,” Hirata went on to comment. “You can get whipped from being in the top or the bottom.”
Entering into regular competition tomorrow, Hirata and team are prepared to race while gathering precious run data.
“We plan to go back to our original tune up and go a little bit the other way and hopefully see an improvement,” said Hirata. “Every run is a test run for us.”
Dave Hirata will have lane choice over Gene Arrigoni during round one of eliminations tomorrow.
