Last Race Makes Millican Happy and Sad |
Final Race Brings Mixed Emotions For Millican, RATT Mobile Team
The arrival of the Auto Club Finals has Clay Millican in a quandary.
“It’s like I am glad it’s here, but on the other hand, I am sad to see it because it means I don’t get to drive a racecar for a while,” said Millican of the 23rd and final 2007 POWERade Series race. “The good news for me is we plan to begin testing pretty early so there really isn’t an off-season for us any more. We’ll just be getting ready for the 2008 season.”
As Evan Knoll’s RATT – Back for More Tour Top Fuel team prepares for the Thursday through Sunday event, Millican is thinking of those test sessions that could put him on course to becoming a viable contender for the series title and the race victories that would bring. The Winternationals kick off the 2008 competition Feb. 7-10.
“We have run quick times at Pomona and we have the potential to do it again,” added the popular driver from Drummonds, Tenn. “Johnny (West, crew chief) is learning more each lap we make. Our goal now is the same as it is at every race – we want to go rounds on Sunday.
“The one thing we really want to do at Pomona is get a good performance from the RATT Mobile. This is its farewell race. We have enjoyed the sponsorship and working with Stephen Pearcy of RATT. He’s really into drag racing.”
This has been an unusual season for Millican and the team. Many of them have been used to winning races and IHRA championships. Millican did win his 51 career IHRA title earlier this month in Budds Creek, Md.
“We are going to be doing our best to turn on four win lights on Sunday,” Millican said.
One Finals qualifying run is scheduled Thursday and Friday with the last two coming Saturday. Sunday’s race begins at 11 a.m.
